Emma Hartnett has over six years experience working in risk analysis. Emma has a Ph.D. in statistics and modeling science (University of Strathclyde, UK), and Bachelor's Degree in microbiology (University of Leeds, UK). Before joining Decisionalysis, Emma led the import and animal movement risk analysis team at the Veterinary Laboratories Agency, UK.
Emma specializes in the design, development, management and presentation of risk analyses and mathematical models in the fields of national and international veterinary and public health. In this domain, Emma has developed models considering food related pathogens (e.g. campylobacter and antimicrobial resistance), and exotic diseases (e.g. foot-and-mouth disease and classical swine fever) and has provided consultancy to international organizations regarding disease control policy for food-related and exotic pathogens.
Emma is engaged in World Health Organization and Food and Agricultural Organization initiatives in microbial risk assessment, including the establishment of international guidelines for risk analysis and the Expert Drafting Group preparing a Risk Assessment of Campylobacter spp. in Broilers. Emma also provides training services to WHO/FAO member countries and other national and international organizations.
Emma has given numerous invited lectures on risk assessment for food safety and animal health. Among these are invited presentations at the 35th General Session of the European Commission for the Control of Foot and Mouth Disease, and the Advisory Committee for the Microbial Safety of Food (ACMSF).
